High School Division Championship Game
Details 30
Bobcats 12
It wasn’t a secret that Details was the favorite to win the High School Division championship given the fact that the team was led by 6-foot-4 Jalen Wenger, the Wayne County Athletic League Player of the year last year, and first-team all-Ohio selection as a junior, and his brother, 6-5 Braylon Wenger, two outstanding players who have bright futures ahead of them. Then add Jaden Schlabach, who looks like Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb playing basketball, and Kyrie Gaut, and you have a formidable team.
Details faced off against the Norwayne Bobcats, a team that Details beat 30-24 in pool play. Ethan Hann gave the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead with a strong left-handed layup. The two teams traded baskets, but Braylon Wenger put Details up 8-4 with a strong inside move and a left-handed finish.
Jaden Schlabach nailed a 3-pointer to give Details an 18-8 lead. Mason Booth hit a free throw to cut the lead to 25-12 but Details was too strong and claimed a 30-12 win for its second High School Division title.
“Anything can happen because there was some good competition at the high school level,” Jalen Wenger said. “In the semifinals, we got to the point where we just needed to kick it in to gear to get us to the championship.
