E3 General Services Rolls To Summer League Title
June 26, 2024
By Morgan Wenger
League Director

E3 General Services won their first Dawg Days Summer League championship in 2024

The heaviest drama of the 2024 Dawg Days Summer League took place in the first semifinal game between Death Row and Details. Details was coming off two consecutive Dawg Days Summer League titles, boasted the top two scorers in the league, and had defeated every team in the league by at least 20 points during the regular season. Despite Death Row being focused and ready to play from the start, Details still built a 21-12 lead after a 10-0 run midway through the first half. Led by Denerio Bryant’s 14 first half points, Death Row responded with a game altering 22-4 run to grab a 34-25 lead late in the first half. A flurry of points and steals in the last 30 seconds of the half brought Details to within three points at halftime.

From Home Page The second half was tightly contested most of the way. Both teams had mini runs to surge ahead, only to see their opponent respond. Good shooting, physical play, and technical fouls on both sides resulted in Details leading 58-57 with just over a minute to play. After stopping Death Row, Jaxon Hackett scored on a run out and lead pass from Jalen Wenger to extend Details lead to 60-57 with less than a minute to play. Trevor Summers responded with a heavily contested, off balance three pointer at the other end to tie the score at 60. Jalen Wenger responded with a free throw to put Details back ahead with under 20 seconds remaining. Summers tried responding with another three pointer from the top of the key. This one bounced off the rim. Guys on both teams got their hands on the rebound, but Denerio Bryant was in the right place at the right time to catch the ricochet. Bryant caught the ball and banked it in softly off the glass to give Death Row a 62-61 lead inside of the 10 second mark. With no timeouts remaining, Details ended up with a contested half court heave from Jalen Wenger as their last gasp at defending their league title. The shot fell short and Death Row advanced to the championship game. Bryant’s game winner gave him a game high 20 points to lead Death Row, while Trevor Summers made six three pointers on his way to a 19 point effort. Deyshawn Holmes added 10 points for the winners. Jaxon Hackett (16 points), Jalen Wenger (15 points), and Braylon Wenger (11 points) led the way for Details in defeat.

E3 General Services tried to land the knockout punch early in the second semifinal game, but Ezra and Nehemiah Miller of the Tropics would not let it happen. The Miller brothers combined for five three pointers in the first half to keep the score close for most of the first half. As the half wore on, it was evident that it was going to be difficult for the Tropics to stay attached to the talented E3 General Services squad. More specifically, they were going to have trouble stopping Tre Fite and James Roundtree. The E3 General Services’ duo scored 13 points each to lead their team to a 40-28 halftime advantage. Things deteriorated quickly for the Tropics in the second half as Bryce Barbera exploded for 22 second half points for E3 General Services. Barbera’s big second half gave him game high scoring honors with 26 points, while Roundtree (23 points), Fite (15 points), and Eugene Such (11 points) also reached double figures for the winners. Nehemiah Miller (26 points) and Ezra Miller (19 points) both knocked in five shots from long range as the Tropics bowed out in the semifinal round for the second consecutive year by the count of 96-58.

With their only two losses of the summer coming against Details, the coast was clear for longtime league participant E3 General Services to claim their first league championship against Death Row. They wasted no time in putting this game to bed early. London Cobbs used a flurry of drives and transition baskets to lead his team to an early 16-2 lead. E3 General Services settled for a 35-21 halftime advantage after a 75 foot buzzer beating three pointer from Denerio Bryant ended the half with some momentum for Death Row. The momentum was short lived as E3 General Services started hitting from all angles early in the second half to build a commanding 20 point lead with more than 12 minutes remaining in the game. They coasted to a 70-39 championship game victory. London Cobbs led the way with 19 points for the champions while Tre Fite, James Roundtree, and Michael Miller each added 13 points. Trevor Summers paced Death Row with 14 points.
